Students are required to pass the 8th Grade ELA LEAP with a minimum of Basic (note: the district may change this to Mastery) to pass the class and be promoted to high school. Seventh grade students should aim to score Basic so that they will not be placed into remediation classes. Students will read, interpret, analyze, and discuss fiction and nonfiction texts in a variety of forms from a variety of cultures and demonstrate knowledge through literary analysis, research simulation, and narrative writing. As IB students, all students need to strive to become knowledgeable, reflective, balanced, open-minded, inquirers, communicators, thinkers, principled, caring, and risk-takers.

ELA meets every day, so students can get behind very quickly. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for make-up assignments for unexcused and/or excused absences the same day the student returns to school. It must be turned in within 5 school days.
Most homework issued will not be due the next class day. Students will have multiple days to turn it in. Once the last day to turn in an assignment has been reached, it will not be accepted.
I use the Remind app for communication regarding assignments. To join the class, simply text @mrsfrabbi to 81010. Students and parents may join. Students should join using their names. Parents should put the student name first, then their name.
The test on the mandatory book will be September 4. The second chosen book project will also be due September 4. Please see the RMS website for more information.
Class time is invaluable, and it is very important that students spend as much time in class as possible. Student may access the restroom before school, during lunch, and during gym. Therefore, classroom bathroom privileges are limited . Students are given 12 restroom visits per nine weeks. No student is allowed to use the restroom without their ID. Students in 3rd and 7th period are not allowed to use the restroom during class as this is the period their lunch occurs.
