Welcome to our classroom!
My name is Mr. Willis, and I teach both 6th grade standard and 7th grade honors math here at Riverdale Middle School. I’ve had an opportunity to get to know many of my students, and am looking forward to getting to know everyone as we move into the school year. We’ve got some great kids here at RMS, and I’ve been enjoying my time working with all of them.
Our class mission is to create and be a part of a class where we can enjoy learning, working as part of a team, and exceeding our own expectations. I’m committed to creating a class environment where we can all feel safe and respected, and toward this aim we’ll be working accountable talk into our time together as we move forward this year. This approach helps us to be a more effective team, more engaged learners and critical thinkers, and develops healthy and positive communication habits.
I’ll be posting a summary every week of what we’re covering, as well as some practice and study materials you can view and use from home. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or clarifications you might need about the material and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.
Week of 11/06 – 11/11:
This week we’ll be finishing up our work on graphing on the coordinate plane, and an in-class project creating our own maps using coordinate plane movement directions. We’ll have a short quiz on Thursday/Friday covering the coordinate plane, quadrants, and reflecting across the x- and y-axes.
Next, we’ll be learning about powers and exponents, to help prepare us for next week’s lesson on mathematical expressions and the order of operations.
I’ve included some practice work and answer keys on the material we’ll be covering. Please feel free to print these out and use them!
