Welcome to our class and the diverse program that we offer students with reading weaknesses. This class is held 5 days a week. Each student has an individual folder and is placed in groups of 8 students are less. Groups follow a “ROTATION” 25-30 minute cycle.
iREADY Computer Based Lessons- individually designed to meet each child’s current level of reading Lexile level. Use of lunch # and/or name brings your child to the daily lesson.
SCHOLASTIC- Reading Comprehension Booklets. Appropriate Lexile level booklets are chosen and a summary sheet with a “wrap up” activity and ending online Reading Counts comprehension test is given to student.
SMALL GROUP- Reading strategies are practiced in this rotation setting. Use of iREADY and the newly adopted COLLECTIONS series will be used under teacher instruction.
SSR- The first 7 minutes of each day. This is used to promote leisure reading and the use of our school library or the public library. Student will JOURNAL an entry from Tuesday-Friday. A FINAL GRADE will be averaged and entered into each nine week session.
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Red homework folder, daily sharpened pencil, daily leisure reading material, one box of tissue (or $.50 towards buying tissue).
RULES: 1- SIT in assigned colored coded group. 2- LOOK- LISTEN to teacher/ computer instruction. 3- RAISE HAND- WAIT for eye contact before speaking. 4- Keep class supplies ON DESK. 5- Keep HANDS/FEET to self. 6- Use TISSUE- WASH hands with wipes.
HOMEWORK- Will begin soon. When a weekly reading passage is given, FAMILIES are to read, re-read-, re-read TOGETHER nightly. A SUMMARY SHEET of notes and QUESTIONS will be returned each FRIDAY in the RED HOMEWORK FOLDER. More to come!!
